Accredited Online Mba Programs

Accredited online MBA programs are just as valid as having gone to school the traditional way.  Universities and colleges have realized the need to provide an alternative method of education for many people who are already pursuing careers or holding down jobs but want to start another career. Thus was born the option of accredited online mba programs.

Why the need for accreditation

To ensure you are being provided the basic level of quality in whatever course or program you have decided to enroll in, this must be accredited. Accreditation is either given by a professional body or a government agency overseeing the sector, in this case, education.

An accredited online MBA program will ensure that you, the student, shall have a degree that is recognized and credible not only for purposes of employment, but for federal financial aid and credit transfer in case you wish to pursue further studies. In the United States, the accreditation body is the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

Online and global

Of the Top 10 global accredited Online MBA programs that resulted from independent polls by Forbes Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times and The Economist, the Thunderbird School of Global Management based in Arizona came in second only to the Madrid-based IE Business School. But seven business schools based in the United States made it to the list. It should be noted, however, that this is a totally different list from the Top 10 MBA schools, topped by the Harvard Business School, offering regular campus programs.

Aside from Spain, the two other schools outside of America that made it to the list are based in the United Kingdom - Manchester Business School (#4) and Warwick Business School (#5) in Coventry.  The others that made it to the list based on reputation, structure, networking opportunities, gained skills and tuition investment are:

  • #3 Duke University (North Carolina)
  • #6 University of Florida
  • #7 Indiana University
  • #8 Pennsylvania State University
  • #9 Babson College (Massachusetts)
  • #10 University of Massachusetts (Amherst)

Residency experience

They either classified their programs as Global MBA, Cross-Continental MBA, Distance Learning or Internet MBA or Online MBA. The one feature all these accredited online mba programs had in common is the requirement for residency experiences that will have students visiting the home campus or attending seminars near the school's location for one to two weeks within the duration of the program.

Since its target student is not just confined within the United States, emphasis is placed on global or international financial management and other global issues that affect trade and commerce.

In general, however, the curriculum of the accredited online mba programs is almost similar, focusing on:

  • Finance
  • Accounting
  • Decision Making
  • Marketing
  • Strategy
  • Communications
  •  Analysis
  • Project Management

But your choice for an online MBA school is not limited to the ones in the list. There are several other colleges and universities just as reputable which can harness your potentials as a leader. Tuition fees range from $37,750 to $120,000. On the average, this costs around $40,000.

A top mba school will necessarily want to offer only accredited MBA programs to ensure their reputation. Still, it will be up to you to choose which business school to attend to and make sure that you not only satisfy your criteria of lower expenses but also the convenience of studying at your own time and pace. Accreditation is a vital concern.

When you're ready to take the next step in your career path, consider accredited online MBA programs to help you succeed.
